Ocular Toxicity

Functional Cell Stress Assays

When you look at ocular studies for drug efficacy, observation tends to flow through systemic routes of exposure. Ocular indications and effects need to be analyzed after the compounds are administered by other routes other than intravenous, perhaps orally. Several diseases and conditions, which may be age-related or due to ailments that trigger them, help make a patterned ocular study design to tackle and find solutions. Stellixir Biotech has specifically designed programs that perform safety studies while using therapeutic agents.

Our labs are equipped to assist with routine paraffin, cryo-sectioning, immunohistochemistry, and electron microscopy. We also provide amenities for standalone or general toxicology for ocular studies. There is scope for in vitro ocular irritancy evaluations for your early research programs.

In Vitro Assays Conducted by Stellixir Biotech
  • Short term exposure assay using corneal epithelial cells (Statens Seruminstitut Rabbit Cornea SIRC cell line) (OECD 491)
  • EpiOcular eye irritation assay using 3D reconstructed human corneal epithelium tissue model (OECD 492)
Ocular Toxicity Assessment
  • Specular microscopy for non-invasive, in vivo evaluation of the corneal endothelium
  • Tonometry (IOP) evaluations
  • Enhanced microscopic evaluation
  • Ocular histopathology
  • Quantitative autoradiography (2D and 3D)
